What is Stollen?

Stollen is a traditional German Christmas fruit bread, made of nuts, spices, and dried or candied fruit, coated with powdered sugar or icing sugar and often containing marzipan (a delicious almond paste!). During the Christmas season it is also called Weihnachtsstollen or Christstollen.

The most common Stollen is Dresdener Stollen from the city of Dresden, Germany. The word Stollen, means a post or boundary stone for a city.
